HBO Max has announced that its latest fantasy series, House of the Dragon, is its biggest premiere of all time after hitting 9.986 million viewers on Sunday night in the US.

The show beat others like the original Game of Thrones series, which it is based on and the teen drama series, Euphoria.

A hit TV series could not have come at a better time for the troubled streaming platform as it tries to hang on to disgruntled subscribers.

Its problems arose after an acquisition of its parent company, WarnerMedia, by Warner Discovery saw it merge with Discovery+ at the expense of several of its content. In addition to the continuous weight-shedding, there are also several projects that are being stopped.

Most notable of which are Batgirl movie and the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader, which was to be helmed by Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves.

For now, the fantasy series is single-handedly saving the HBO Max viewership and will no doubt add some new ones. Also, the three months free offer for new subscribers could see its subscriber count go up until the end of the year.

After the tenth House of the Dragon episode airs and the promo ends, what other piece of magic will the streaming platform whip up? We await such a time.
