Warner Bros. Games claims that its Harry Potter based video game, Hogwarts Legacy, has sold over 12 million units and generated more than $850 million in just two weeks.
Developed by Avalanche Software and immersed in controversy following continued criticism of J. K. Rowling, who is responsible for creating the fictional universe it is based on, the game has broken the sales record of its publisher.
According to a Game Rant report, the video game was already the most-watched single-player title on Twitch and the biggest game by its publisher on Steam. Remember that the publisher is also behind other popular games like the Batman: Arkham, F.E.A.R. and Mortal Kombat series.

Hogwarts Legacy was launched on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, with versions for older consoles expected around April or May 2023. Also, the studio is already looking at plans to make the game a series, after seeing its early success. Although, they have not announced an official sequel yet.
In addition, there also rumours that the developer is making a multiplayer version of the game and a TV show based on it.
The game is being pitched to outdo Elden Ring in sales as the 2022 action RPG sold 13.2 million copies in one month and has reached 20 million units in about a year. We will have to see how the magic-themed game performs against others like Final Fantasy XVI, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor, and others by the end of 2023.
