HMD Global announced launching a new Nokia 220 feature phone that has 4G network connectivity and that is priced at $42 (NGN16,367).
Nokia phones are among the first generations of mobile phones ever made. With an early start and devoted investors, Nokia led the mobile phone markets early in its history.
However, the reverse has been the case in recent times. The company that had once been a giant is now relegated to the barely influential role of “flagship killer”.
Since HMD Global took over the production and distribution of Nokia phones, the company is seeing a climb in its market share. Of course, this is still far from the top spot. But these improvements are worth noting.
Now, to even give Nokia more stake in the market, it is tapping into historic designs. It is likely from a reminiscent place that HMD came up with the Nokia 220 4G feature phone. This is also a thoughtful move for many reasons.

While many of the world’s leading smartphone users, younger people, prefer using the popular touch screen designs, the older ones may welcome something that reminds them of their recent past.
For now, HMD has only made Nokia 220 available for pre-sale in China. It will launch officially on 7th May and will likely start reaching other phone markets by then.
According to a GizChina report, the Nokia 220 4G has a “classic polycarbonate” body and will come in black and blue colours. It will come packed with a 1200 mAh removable battery, a 16MB RAM and 24MB ROM (which can be extended using a microSD card).
In addition, there are indications that the phone will not support 3G; if there is no 4G connection available, it falls automatically to 2G. Also, while it comes with a headphone jack, it supports hands-free FM Radio.
HMD promises that Nokia 220 4G will be lightweight, weighing about 86.5g. Its in-built web browser will surely allow users to surf the internet seamlessly with its 4G connectivity.
