The 2022 BET Awards celebrating Black excellence in music, culture and sports held on Sunday June 26 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

Nigerian superstar Temilade Openiyi, popularly called Tems, won the Best International Act. Nigerian Singer Fireboy DML was also nominated for that same category.

Wizkid’s “Essence” featuring Tems and Justin Bieber was also announced as the best collaboration.

With the win, “Essence” becomes the first African song to win a BET award and Wizkid becomes the first Nigerian and African to win an Award outside the Best International Acts category.

Fireboy DML brought fire to the stage performing his hit track “Peru”. From his outfit to the dancers who didn’t hold back with electrifying dance steps, Fireboy represented Africa in the world stage.

Diddy’s tribute was one of the biggest moments of the show. It was an All Stars performance as Diddy came on stage performing songs he produced while he was an intern in Uptown Records with Jodeci providing the musical backdrop.

Mary J Blige performed “I’m Goin’ Down”. The Lox and Lil Kim joined Diddy for a performance of “All About The Benjamins.  Busta Rhymes then graced the stage for a performance of “Pass The Coirvoisier”.

The performance ended with video of his long time love Kim Porter before Faith Evans closed out singing “I’ll Be Missing You”.
