“Heaven Baby”- Would You Choose Career Over Family?

When you hear “Heaven Baby” what is the first thing that comes to mind? I would say a child sent from heaven. In this short film, Mohini played by Oreka Godis believes that having a baby will slow down her career as an Asset Manager. Her husband, Jaiye played by Ibrahim Suleiman advises that they adopt a child since it’s their fourth year without a child.

Unknown to Jaiye, Mohini had an IUD (Intrauterine Device) inserted in her body. Due to the pressure of having a baby and fear of losing her marriage, Mohini removes the IUD on her own.

 

A few months later, she learns that she is pregnant. However, she receives her Harvard admission on that same day. She has been pursuing admission to Harvard for the past three years so she is confused about whether to forgo the admission to start a family, or start a family and kiss Harvard goodbye.

Jaiye on his way home receives a call from the doctor that his wife’s result shows that she is pregnant. He runs home to a tired-looking Mohini, hugs her, and kisses her belly. However, the director uses a flashback that shows Mohini drinking some pills in the bathroom. So the question is; did she abort the pregnancy?.

 

“Heaven Baby” is a short film that spotlights some of the struggles of marriages a lot of couples don’t share. Sometimes, choosing between starting a family and a career can be a difficult decision.
