Still, some people would rather be hairless than be spotted with a strand of hair out of place. It’s no news that you can rid yourself of your hair in many ways but one. Each of them has their pros and cons, and if you’re conversant with any or all of the hair removal techniques, then you must know them.

Shaving

Even if you don’t remove your hair, ever, you must know about shaving. It is the fastest way to remove hair and is done by simply by cutting the surface hair. Using a shaving stick also makes it pretty easy, just remember to exfoliate before you start.

Pros: It is affordable, fast, and easy.

Cons: Hair grows back fast and you may also experience razor burn and inflammation.

Waxing

This is a hair removal method that removes the organ (follicle or root) responsible for hair growth. Your hair gets trimmed if too long before waxing is done. If this isn’t done first, waxing might become painful. The hot wax is applied to your skin, it then grabs onto the roots of your hair, cools off, and is then pulled off.

Pros: Waxing is quick, removes large areas of hair, and delays growth of hair. It can also be done on any type of hair and is quite affordable. So, you may do it yourself as long as you follow due procedures.

Cons: It can cause inflammation and irritation to your skin. It damages the cells needed to grow new hair and can be quite painful if not done well.

Tweezing

This is a gradual way of plucking off hair from any area of your body.

Pros: It is precise.

Cons: It is painful and can take forever to get a result.

Laser Hair Removal

To get this done, an intense beam of light bypasses the surface of your skin and gets absorbed by hair follicles. The process then destroys any chances of new hair to be grown over time.

Pros: It is more effective than waxing and shaving as it lasts longer. The sessions are also short.

Cons: It is expensive. It also takes several sessions to achieve semi-permanent or permanent hair reduction. It may not be effective on hair with a little pigment. Braun global dermatologist Justine Hextall, M.D. says another limitation is: “It is most effective on light to medium skin tones with hair ranging from natural blond to dark brown or black.”

Cons: Chemical may cause irritation and should not be applied to sensitive areas. It also doesn’t last long.

Epilating

Epilator is a device with combined motorised rows of tweezers. It looks like an electric razor but has rotating cylinders with integrated tweezers which remove the hairs at the root.

Pros: Less painful than tweezing and lasts longer than shaving or waxing.

Cons: Can be painful if done on some areas like the bikini line.
