Google executives are warning the American government against the Huawei ban. They say the software from Huawei could increase security risks.
New reports suggest that Huawei is now working on their own software. Google thinks that its new operating system will be more accessible to hackers.
Google is asking the Trump Administration to delay or exempt Huawei from the ban.
This follows the national emergency declared by the American government last month. Google responded at the time by cutting Huawei off from potential Android updates.
Huawei responded to all these by saying it was working on its own operating system. They say they had been working on it for years and it may be released before the end of 2019.
The Donald Trump administration subsequently granted a 90-day window to allow the companies to adjust. Google is now asking for an extension or exclusion from the ban. This is so that they can continue supplying Huawei with their Android OS.
There is a fear that Huawei would not fare well if forced to make create their own software. It seems like they could potentially put other imitation software including Android OS at risk.
Google in a statement says; “Like other US companies, we’re engaging with the Department of Commerce to ensure we’re in full compliance with its requirements and temporary license.”
“Our focus is protecting the security of Google users on the millions of existing Huawei handsets in the US and around the world,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, for now, the ban on Huawei is still going to unfold. Huawei had also gone to court to question the restrictions.
However, it was reported last week that Chinese government officials have warned many tech companies against the US ban. China threatens to set up a blacklist of unreliable entities in retaliation.
