Google has announced that most of its employees will still work from home until 2021. This is likely a testament to the fact that the coronavirus has changed the face of work and will likely have a lasting impact on its future.
The Information reports that although Google had previously told its employees that they would be working remotely until 1st June 2020. CEO Sundar Pichai had told employees that they’d likely work from home until the end of 2020.
Pichai had also told employees that those who have to work from the office can do so from July 2020. He says advanced safety measures will be in place before people returned to the office.
Facebook also made a similar announcement yesterday. The social media giants said information from the CDC and Johns Hopkins, along with government guidance helped it make its decision.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in April 2020 that because most Facebook employees can work remotely; the company felt “a responsibility to allow people who don’t have this flexibility to access shared public resources first”.
In its statement, the company revealed:
“Facebook has taken the next step in its return to work philosophy. Today, we announced anyone who can do their work remotely can choose to do so through the end of the year. As you can imagine this is an evolving situation as employees and their families make important decisions are returning to work.”
Zuckerberg also said his company would not hold any gatherings of more than 50 people until July 2021.
