Google Says It’s Working On Notification Issues With COVID Tracing Apps
Google has announced that it is working quickly to investigate issues with the Android apps that use the Android Exposure Notifications System to track the spread of COVID-19.
The issue is causing a delay in the apps to load or conduct regular exposure checks. The NHS COVID-19 app used in England and Wales is also affected by this Android issue, with a loading notification stuck in the notifications area for many users according to The Verge.
“We are aware of an issue affecting Android apps developed using the Android Exposure Notifications System. Our engineers are investigating the issue,” a Google spokesperson in a statement.

Google and the developers of the NHS COVID apps say they are working urgently to identify the source of these issues and provide a fix.
“We are aware of an issue affecting Android users of the #NHSCOVID19app who are receiving a loading screen notification,” the NHS app developer posted on Twitter. The issues affect all the apps worldwide that use the Android Exposure Notifications System.

In England and Wales alone, more than 10 million people downloaded the NHS COVID-19 app in September 2020. However, it is believed that the total amount of downloads will be way more than that figure.
The app uses Bluetooth to anonymously broadcast data, facilitating track and trace programs worldwide.
