Google is doing something major by replacing voice search with Google Assistant. The familiar blue and red mic are going to be swapped with the Google Assistant.

Google had voice search functions before the Google Assistant was introduced. It was integrated into the full search bar on Google.

Google has since shifted its attention to the innovation that is the voice assistant. With all the work it has put into the project, it is now looking to replace the voice search technology altogether.

The old voice search was previously accessible through the Google app. It was also available for the Google app shortcut and Search bar widget.

The voice search function was popular with the ‘Ok Google’ word. The microphone icon immediately carries out a Google search after speaking the hot word. It will also offer in-build Search cards as results on the app.

The mic icon had been discarded to leave room for a g-shaped Assistant icon. The old ‘Say Hey Google’ has also been replaced with ‘Ask your Assistant’. However, the tool still brings up the same old interface.

Although, the major difference now is that the query is performed by the Assistant, and it will open the results in the slide-up panel. The updated widget will now match the bottom of the Pixel Launcher.

Google is yet to roll out the feature on all devices. However, there is a high chance it will come with the upcoming Android OS updates.

It seems Google is doing this so that there won’t be two similar apps doing the same functions. The Voice search function work in more languages but these are features that can be incorporated into the Assistant function.
