Google will fully support Microsoft’s Windows 11 with Android Gaming next year 2022, under the “Google Play Games App”. This will run ultimately on Windows tablets, laptops and even PCs.
Tech site The Verge spoke to Greg Hartrell, Google’s product director of games on Android and Google play about the support. He says, “Starting in 2022, players will be able to experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs.”
Also, he explained further“This Google built product brings the best of Google Play Games to more laptops and desktops, and we are thrilled to expand our platform for players to enjoy their favorite Android games even more.”
Microsoft is currently testing the new Windows 11 Android Apps support with its insider program. The first preview of its Android support has been released to beta testers. If you would like to get a look at the new feature, simply sign up for the Windows Insider program here.
So how is Microsoft making it possible to run Android apps? It is simply partnering with the Amazon store to get the Android app you need. While in the process, a Windows Subsystem for Android powers the Android apps right there on Windows 11.
It’s also possible to sideload these Android apps alongside your Windows apps. There are currently 50 apps available for this preview, users can also pin them on the Start menu or taskbar.

There were earlier rumours that the new Windows 11 OS will support a native Android emulator for windows as reported by MSpoweruser.
How does Microsft aim to achieve this? To natively run Android through the windows subsystem for Linux. A recent specific entry in the changelog for the latest windows Subsystem for Linux release surfaced.
The changelog has two precise mentions of Android, one emphasizes the change. This “fix android emulator window is not movable when no frame” and another that shows “fix android emulator window doesn’t move and crash at minimize”
Regardless of the outcome of this new feature, it is still possible to run Andriod apps on Windows through third-party programs or through the Your Phone app and link to Windows.
To show strong levels of commitment, Greg says that games will run locally for Windows. “This will be a native Windows app distributed by Google, which will support Windows 10 and up,” he added.
