Google has announced that it will begin to reopen its offices beginning in July 2020. The tech giant in a blog post announcing the move says it then plans to gradually scale up its office capacity.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai told employees that the company will reopen “more buildings in more cities” starting 6th July 2020. Pichai, however, did not specify which. Google employees at the locations scheduled for reopening will be able to return to the office and then be limited to about 10% building occupancy at first. It plans to grow its office capacity to 30% by September 2020.
“We’ll have rigorous health and safety measures in place to ensure social distancing and sanitization guidelines are followed. So the office will look and feel different than when you left. Our goal is to be fair in the way we allocate time in the office while limiting the number of people who come in, consistent with safety protocols.,” Pichai said in the blog post.

Pichai announced that, although returning to work will be optional, it would rotate those who need to come to its offices. The plan is to have the employees come in once every couple of weeks.
Pichai also said Google will be more flexible with remote working options after the pandemic.
“Moving ahead, we are looking to develop more overall flexibility in how we work. Our campuses are designed to enable collaboration and community…at the same time, we are very familiar with distributed work as we have many offices around the world and open-minded about the lessons we’ll learn through this period,” he wrote.
Google will also give its workers a $1,000 stipend for home office equipment to make remote work easier.
