Google has confirmed that the Google Pay iOS app, Android app, and website will lose many of its payment features in January 2021. A Google support page shows that the old apps will soon no longer be able to send or receive payments or withdraw money.

Also, a notice on the Google Pay website shows that it is losing its ability to send and receive peer-to-peer payments. In addition, the company is introducing a 1.5 per cent fee for transfers out of Google Pay with a debit card, according to 9to5Google.

A support page states that transferring money out using a debit card, which was previously free, will now incur a fee of 1.5 per cent or a minimum charge of $0.31. Transfers out to a linked bank account are still free but could take between one and three business days.

Google relaunched the service recently, with a new app and new features like the ability to automatically scan your Gmail inbox and Google Photos account for receipts to import.

Google wants to expand its service again in 2021. It plans to partner with banks to offer full checking and savings accounts within Google Pay. The company also confirms that Google Pay’s web interface will still remain. Only that it will be focused on managing payment methods, subscriptions, and account settings, in the future according to the company says.
