Google is redesigning its Maps make it easier to differentiate the natural features in the environment, like; mountainous snowy peaks, deserts, sandy beaches, or dense forests. The new design will be available in the 220 countries and territories supported by Google Maps,
Google also says the street maps are also getting more detailed in some select cities. The company adds that it used satellite imagery as the basis for redesigning the maps. It also is applying a “new color-mapping algorithmic technique” to the redesign.
The result is a more distinguished identifier for natural features in the environment. Features like ice caps and dense forests and sandy beaches are more recognisable in the new redesign.

In the case of street maps, Google plans to distinguish between different street features like roadways, sidewalks, and crosswalks. The feature is coming to cities such as New York, San Francisco, and London. The company says the redesign will show the shape and width of any given road “to scale.”
Google Maps’ new redesign will begin to roll out around the world from this week. However, users will need to “zoom-out” to see the differences. The street designs for New York, San Francisco, and London will roll out in months. It, however, plans to add more cities over time.
Apple also did something similar with a redesign update for its Maps app in 2019 that improved the amount of detail shown in towns and cities.
