Google has announced that it is rolling out Incognito modes for Google Maps on iOS. Google first announced this feature at its I/O developer conference in May 2019. It’s already available for Google Maps on Android.

The incognito mode works as it does in the Chrome browser. In the mode, if you search for a location or navigate somewhere, Google won’t save the information to your account. You turn Incognito mode on by tapping your profile picture in the search bar and then tapping ‘Turn on incognito mode’.

Apart from Google Maps, the tech company introduced an Incognito mode to the YouTube app on Android in 2018. The app’s Incognito modes give users the option of more privacy if they choose to use one of Google’s apps over the mobile web.

Google Making It Easier To Delete Information From Maps

American multinational also announced that it will roll out the ability for Android users to bulk-delete information from their Google Maps timeline and location history next month. Like you’ll be able to tap on what places you want to delete like you would when you’re bulk-archiving emails, based on this information from Google’s blog:

In addition to Incognito modes, Google will also make it easier to figure out what data each app is collecting on you in the first place.

By tapping your profile icon in Chrome, search, Assistant, YouTube, News, and Maps, you’ll be able to access a setting called “your data” that’ll allow you to control how long Google can hang onto your information.

It’s available for web and app data starting today 10th December 2019, with location history coming soon.
