Google has announced some new features for its Messages app for Android. The features include the ability to reply to messages with emoji reactions. Google started testing the feature in May 2020 but is now rolling them officially.

Other messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and iOS’ built-in Messages app have already had the feature for a while.

Users can tap and hold a message they wish to respond to with an emoji reaction. Then they can choose which reaction they wish to respond with from a short list of cute animated emojis that will pop up. Emoji reactions will only be available if the RCS chat feature is turned on.

Another feature Google is also adding to the Messages app for Android is called Smart Reply. Smart Reply will automatically suggest potential responses for users. It can also now suggest emoji stickers in addition to just text. According to Google, the feature is only available in English at the moment.

The Messages for Android app is also getting a media editor built into Messages. This will allow users to easily create art with their photos and share them in conversations. To use the media editor, all you have to do take a photo with the in-app camera and add text or draw on the image using brushes before sharing with friends and family.

Additionally, Google Messages for Android is getting a voice note feature which will be useful in situations where it’s just better to talk or you can’t type for a long time and for video calls. Users can now make a Google Duo video call from the Messaging app as well.
