Google Adds Apple App Store Privacy Labels To The Gmail App
Google has now added Apple App Store privacy labels to its Gmail app. The Gmail app is the second major Google app to get the labels. They were added to YouTube when it was updated earlier in February 2021.
The app shares your rough location and user ID with advertisers. Gmail also shares information about your interaction with advertisements. The privacy label however states that it doesn’t collect your name, physical address, or phone number.
It uses location data for analytics and there are some features of the app that request it. Apple’s app privacy labels show all the things that the app might access, although it doesn’t show what specific information the app will access.

It’s also worth noting that the Gmail app got the labels without actually being updated. The iOS Gmail app was last updated two months ago. MacRumors describes the update like this;
“Google today quietly added App Privacy labels to its Gmail app, marking the first of its major apps to receive the privacy details aside from YouTube.
Though App Privacy information has been added to Gmail, Google has done so server side and has yet to issue an update to the Gmail app. It has been two months since the Gmail app last saw an update”.

A Google spokesperson confirms that the company plans to; “to add privacy labels across its app catalog. They also confirmed the labels are expected to begin rolling out as soon as this week or next week, though an exact date is not yet available”.
