GM Confirms That It’s Building An All-Electric Version Of The Chevy Silverado Truck
General Motors (GM) has confirmed that it is making an all-electric version of the Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The Chevy Silverado is the company’s bestselling vehicle and the electric version of the truck will be powered by GM’s new EV battery.
The new battery in the electric Chevy Silverado will see it offer around 400 miles on a full charge. The vehicle is to be made at “Factory Zero”, GM’s recently rebranded Detroit-Hamtramck plant dedicated to EVs and AVs. The company is currently retooling the plant for that purpose with a budget of more than $2 billion. The same plant is where GM plans to build its all-electric Hummer SUV and Hummer pickup.

GM has given no details on when the electric Silverado will go on sale, however, its president, Mark Reuss, says that the company also plans to make commercial fleet-focused versions of the truck. GM had previously said it may not release a pickup EV until mid-decade and hadn’t officially announced this truck until recently.

GM is planning to sell some 30 electric vehicles globally by 2025. The company is still behind its rival Ford who already has an electric F-150 in the works. Ford’s F-150 pickup is due in 2022.
