The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) recently forcefully deported 17 out of 29 persons arrested in Ho, the Volta Regional capital. The men faced arrest in Ghana on allegations of cyber fraud involvement, also known in Nigeria as ‘yahoo, yahoo’.
Following their arrest, they carried a screening to determine the Nigerians’ immigration status. According to The Ghanaian Times, they were handed over to the GIS for the screening.
The Ho Municipal Police Commander, DSP Anthony Danso, briefed the Times on Tuesday. He said it emerged that the deported persons did not have good immigration standing.
They released the legal Ghana residents of the 29 arrested “yahoo boys”, who then reunited with their various communities.
Danso noted that some landlords leased houses to some Nigerians. According to reports, they used the houses for various nefarious activities, including cyber fraud.
During the raid, the police retrieved 33 laptop computers, two television sets, and one wireless router. They also retrieved 20 cell phones as well as some electronic gadgets.
