GameStop CFO, Jim Bell, has resigned from his position. Bell will officially leave the video game retailer on 26th March 2021, a little over a month from now.

GameStop has announced a “succession plan,” in the event that it does not immediately make a suitable replacement to “the capabilities and qualifications to help accelerate GameStop’s transformation,” in a release.  This might also be connected to the recent GameStop Wall Street saga.

GameStop plans to appoint Diana Jajeh, who is currently Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer, to the role on an interim basis. Ms. Jajeh has over two decades of experience operating as an auditor, comptroller, and corporate finance executive. Beginning her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, she’s also held senior roles at Visa and e.l.f. Cosmetics.

GameStop also tries to clear up any speculation of any disagreement that could have led to his resignation.

“Mr. Bell’s resignation was not because of any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the Company’s operations, policies or practices, including accounting principles and practices,” GameStop wrote in an SEC filing.

Bell joined GameStop in 2019 and was part of an executive team that led GameStop from its dire financial straits at the time. He oversaw GameStop’s financials from the historically low stock values in much of 2019 and 2020, through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to the WallStreetBets induced explosion of 2021.
