Foldables, Samsung’s new flagship category of smartphones, announced new products for its series. It has flagged off the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 smartphones with S pen support and 5G.The new Fold 3 cost $1,799 and will be available for sale on August 17th alongside the flip 3 and all products owned on 11 August 2021.
They are available for preorder here, in green, black, and silver colours. There was no mention of a new Flagship Note smartphone. Samsung neatly tucked the Fold’s selfie camera under its screen, instead of a hole-punch design in its predecessor.
These smartphone folding screens are the future of Samsung, the company no longer positions its Note Line up for that category. The initiative S Pen nows supports the new 120Hz cover display of the Z Fold 3.
The S pen has two variants, the basic pen, and the Pro version. Sold separately from the Fold 3, the Pro version has air gestures.
Samsung is beefing up the physical elements of its new smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 experienced several problems including cracking screens and creaks.
Samsung says the Fold 3 screen protective film is now 80% stronger. They also added that its hinge is now 10% stronger and uses Gorilla Glass Victus for the cover screen.

Even the body of the Fold 3 has stronger water and sweat resistance, now with an IPX8 rating. The 7.6-inch smartphone has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888, with 12GB of Ram, and is available in either 256GB or 512GB storage options.
The Fold 3 retains the three cameras at the back, an f/1.8 wide, f/2.0 ultra-wide, and an f/2.4 telephoto camera that uses 12-megapixel sensors. A new addition to the telephoto lens camera is optical image stabilisation.
Samsung’s galaxy Z Flip 3 has a bigger cover display than its predecessor. Spotting a 120Hz primary screen, this smartphone is priced at $999. It has the same internals as the pricer Fold 3.
The Flip 3 is available in Green, purple, black, cream, white, grey, and pink colours. Samsung is also making cute cases for the Flips, all available on its website. The changes made to the new Flip are quite minimal, although its new secondary screen size is welcoming.
Its smaller screen is now 4 times larger than its predecessor, making more room to see more notifications as they drop. Users can easily reply to messages, view content, and even take a video instead of opening the Flip.
Instead of an under-display selfie camera on Fold 3, the Flip 3 has a selfie camera screen cut out. The Flip 3 uses the same protective screen film on the Fold 3, although the company claim it’s 30% stronger.
Samsung is offering some discounts on both flagship foldable smartphones for its preorders.
