It’s Valentine season and everyone wants to get boo’ed up. The singletons will always feel left out this season as they have no one to make plans with. However, what is very common in this period is seasonal dating disorder (SDD). Well, seasonal love can be so helpful especially when you alone and desire to be in a relationship.
Just like “ghosting” involves no supernatural apparitions, SDD is not a medically-recognised disorder, however, it is no less socially prevalent.
It’s particularly common in twenty-something daters, notes relationships psychologist Madeleine Mason.
If you follow a specific pattern of dating throughout the year, you might have Seasonal Dating Disorder (SDD). As its name suggests. Here are five symptoms of this common trend.
1. Commitment is a big issue
A person with SDD can’t stay with someone for longer than the holidays. In fact, by the time the Valentine is over, they are already thinking up excuses to dump their lover.

2. They feel trapped in relationships
A person with SDD wants to be in a relationship when it suits them, like when they want to stay indoors during the cold months with someone who warms them up. But when the sun comes up, they need space as though the person is blocking their fresh air.
3. They like the freedom
The ability to pick partners during a particular season sounds perfect, doesn’t it? You get the best of both worlds in the same year. But the consequences aren’t pretty. You are actually hurting someone’s feelings and taking them for a fool.
4 You are good at ghosting
When they want to end things, they might resort to tactics like fading him out, where you slow down how often you text him or her or end up ghosting them. That sucks because Seasonal Dating Disorder is turning you into a dating drama king or queen.
5. It’s a twenties thing
Apparently, “Seasonal Dating Disorder is really common with people in their twenties”, says relationship psychologist Madeleine Mason. In order for you to have Seasonal Dating Disorder, you’ve dated according to the seasons for the last three years. Hmmm. Maybe this year it’s time to break the pattern?.
So if you see you see yourself manifesting all of these characteristics, then you may have seasonal dating disorder, and now is the perfect time to break that dating cycle. Also, watch it when a guy or girl starts showing you unusual affection when Valentine or any holiday is close, you deserve a consistent lover who desires to be with you for a long time.
