It’s not that you don’t want to live an all-around healthy life — everyone wants that. The problem is that it can seem impractical when you’re super busy and/or there is so much conflicting advice from so many sources about things you should do to improve your health.
When it comes down to it, however, fostering your health and boosting your quality of life can be quite simple. Yes, it may require you to make a few changes, and you’ll need to commit to sticking with those changes on a daily basis. However, once you’ve established healthy habits, they’ll just be a part of your routine, and you’ll be a healthier person. If you’re looking to take better care of your head-to-health, here are some simple tips to get you started.
1. Stay current on your healthcare
In order to keep up-to-date on your health, it’s critical to keep up with your healthcare coverage. Once a year, review your policy to make sure you’re getting everything you need. That way, you can determine whether you should add coverage or stop paying for extra coverage that doesn’t make sense for your life.
2. Eat consciously
Eating well is one of the most important parts of living well. Not only does a healthy diet promote overall physical health, which can further improve mental and emotional health, but certain foods also benefit certain parts of your body. For instance, broccoli, spinach and blueberries are known to benefit the brain, and kale, carrots and fish are good for the skin.
Also, potassium-rich foods such as potatoes and cherries can help with muscle function; nuts and beans can reduce the risk of heart disease; and milk and prunes are beneficial to bone strength. Furthermore, kefir, which is rich in probiotics, can help with digestion, as can honey, garlic, and onion (prebiotics). Try to eat a diet that consists of foods like these, and limit your consumption of processed sugars and unhealthy fats.

3. Exercise for 30 minutes every day
Physical activity is essential as well. While a good balance of endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility is ideal, it’s important that you find an exercise routine you enjoy. When you don’t hate the exercise you’re doing, you’re more likely to stick with it for the long-term. Whether it’s walking, running, swimming, weightlifting, HIIT, yoga, or any other kind of workout, just make sure to do it for about 30 minutes a day at least five days a week.
Many find that listening to music can give their fitness routine a boost and that wireless earphones are a huge improvement over traditional headphones. If you’re looking for a set, find one that is sweat-resistant and comfortable to wear. Or, depending on your needs, choose earphones with a noise-blocking ability and/or one that’s compatible with helmets.
4. Sleep for seven to nine hours a night
Sleep is another critical part of living healthy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that adults get seven to nine hours of sleep each night. This allows your body and mind to recover from the day and regenerate for the next. Getting rest will benefit your physical, mental, and emotional health.
5. Take moments to de-stress
Finally, we all need to relax and de-stress sometimes. Find a hobby or activity that you like to do, and try to do it on a weekly basis. It can be basketweaving, hiking, going to the movies, or anything else that helps you to get your mind off work and other obligations for a moment. It’s also good to take short breaks in the middle of the day to recenter your mind and recharge.
Living a healthier life doesn’t have to be complicated. Keep up-to-date on your healthcare coverage, and try to eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly. Additionally, make sure you’re getting enough sleep each night, and figure out activities that help to reduce stress in your life. These changes will become habits in no time, and you may never want to look back once you start reaping all the healthy benefits!
