The father of South African singer AKA’s late fiancée Anele “Nellie” Tembe has said her death was not by suicide.
The father, Moses Tembe made this known in a statement during the lying-in-state of 22-year-old Anele on Friday, April 16th at the Durban International Conference Centre.
In the statement which was read by businessman Sandile Zungu, Tembe declared that his daughter was neither suicidal nor did she commit suicide. He however added people should be on alert as substance abuse is on the rise within south Africa, hinting at her cause of death
“As Anele’s father, I categorically state that Anele was neither suicidal nor did she commit suicide. We must as a matter of priority deal with the scourge that bedevils our youth. Alcohol which is overused and drugs. Fellow South Africans we better wake up and smell the coffee. We have a serious problem with substance abuse.” he wrote.

“I cannot allow an unfortunate narrative to go unchallenged. A narrative that irks me to no end … that is ‘Anele was chronically suicidal. All I can say is until Anele turned 21, not a single member of her family, my family would have associated her with suicide.”
Anele Tembe fell to her death from a Cape Town hotel on Sunday, April 11th. First responders said they heard shouting and a loud “doof” sound.
The paramedics were called by security and they declared her dead on the scene.
AKA and Tembe had been dating a little over a year ago and got engaged in February.
