As the name suggests, a bridesmaid is a member of the bridal party. They tend to be sisters, cousins, or close friends to the bride.
A bride can choose as many bridesmaids as she wants for their wedding. The number can range from five to ten as she desires. However, this must match with the number of groomsmen to create uniformity. Where you have only one bridesmaid, she will serve as the Maid of Honour.
In the lead-up to the wedding, bridesmaids sometimes assist in running errands for the bride or just being around her for moral support.
Sometimes they accompany the bride to shop for her wedding dress, her makeup and hair trials so as to give a second opinion.

On an actual day, bridesmaids support the Maid of Honour in looking after the bride. They also assist the wedding planner with little errands here and there to ensure the wedding is a success.
How to choose your bridesmaids
There are many factors that go into choosing bridesmaids. There’s friendship, family ties, sentimentality, or even returning the favour.
But the big question you want to ask in making final selections is “Do I want these people to be the ones standing with me at the altar as I get married? And am I confident they will support me along the way.” If the answer is yes, then you have the best squad.
Choose ladies you are comfortable being around. People you trust, that you know have your best interest at heart and would do their best to ensure your wedding is a success.
