Facebook Opens New Coronavirus Information Center In Ghana

Facebook is opening a new Coronavirus Information Center in Ghana. The social media giant launched the coronavirus help centers in 18 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa last week. The information center is part of Facebook’s efforts to aid in the worldwide fight of the COVID-19 pandemic. The information center will help Ghanaians access the latest information from official health authorities. It will also provide support to families and communities along resources and tips to remain healthy.

 

The Coronavirus Information Centre is featured at the top of the News Feed on the social media platform, It also provides updates and information about the virus. Real-time updates and statistics from national health authorities and the World Health Organization. Information on social distancing and preventing the spread of the virus will also be featured in the information center.

Facebook users in Ghana can now opt in to follow the information center to get notifications. They’ll also see updates in their News Feed from official government health authorities.

The Facebook information center will provide updates on the coronavirus pandemic to Ghanaians.

 

Facebook’s Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa, Adaora Ikenze said: “We’ve built the information centers in collaboration with national health partners, to ensure that people can get access to information from trusted health sources. The launch of the COVID-19 Information Centre on Facebook is now in more than 19 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ghana, further highlights our commitment in helping to provide accurate, timely information about the pandemic that is accessible to all communities.”

 

Facebook launched a similar initiative in South Africa earlier this month. The Coronavirus Information Centre has since launched to other Sub-Saharan African countries. They include; Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Togo.
