Facebook Gaming Announces Early Access To Gaming Tournaments

Facebook Gaming has announced a new gaming feature called Tournaments that will go live today 7th April 2020. This feature is aimed at keeping people connected as they maintain social distancing.

In a tweet from its official Twitter account, the gaming arm of Facebook said:

The Verge commented in an article that Facebook Gaming had initially planned to launch Tournaments as a live event.

However, with people staying physically apart, this move is commended as it will lift some of the strain social distancing is causing. And it says so in its official statement as well.

In addition, this gaming feature is unique in that users can create and organize virtual tournaments in a variety of formats. The company said in another tweet:

“Anyone can start or join a tournament. That could be a casual competition among friends, a creator playing with their chat, or a global esports competition. And it all happens virtually, from brackets to leaderboards, and everything in between.”

Tournaments are built into Facebook Gaming. Therefore, game creators can host tournaments while they stream. They can also create, play and watch the competition in one spot. There are new charity livestreaming tools that game creators can use to support important causes during a tournament.

Many have asked if only game creators can join this Tournaments section but Facebook Gaming has revealed that it is open to everyone. To join, go to the Tournaments Page.

Facebook Gaming also admits that this is an early access product, probably ahead of schedule, and the product developers welcome comments from users.
