Facebook has announced a new office in Lagos State, Nigeria; and it will be opening its doors in the second half of 2021. The move is part of the social media company’s plan to invest in sub-Saharan Africa.
Facebook currently has only one office in Africa, it is in Johannesburg, South Africa. It opened the Johannesburg office in 2015 and has since then, been investing in other ways in Africa.
The office it is opening in Lagos will have sales, partnerships, policy, communications and engineering departments. It already runs a community hub space, NG_Hub, and a Small Business Group (SBG) Operations Centre in the city. These facilities outsource support to English-speaking advertisers in sub-Saharan Africa and runs other marketing sales programmes.

Speaking about the upcoming office, Ime Archibong, Facebook’s Head of New Product Experimentation says; “The opening of our new office in Lagos, Nigeria presents new and exciting opportunities in digital innovations to be developed from the continent and taken to the rest of the world.
“All across Africa we’re seeing immense talent in the tech ecosystem, and I’m proud that with the upcoming opening of our new office, we’ll be building products for the future of Africa, and the rest of the world, with Africans at the helm. We look forward to contributing further to the African tech ecosystem.”
Kojo Boakye, Facebook’s Director of Public Policy, Africa also says that it is an impressive milestone. “Our mission in Africa is no different to elsewhere in the world – to build community and bring the world closer together, and I’m excited about the possibilities that this will create, not just in Nigeria, but across Africa,” Boakye adds.
Facebook recently rolled out SMB Grants programme for 900 business in Nigeria and South Africa for recovery from the pandemic effects. Nunu Ntshingila, Regional Director, Facebook Africa also says that the Lagos office will help expand the company’s services to more clients in Africa.
