Elon Musk Becomes Third Richest Person In The World, Surpassing Mark Zuckerberg

2020 has really been a huge year for Tesla, SpaceX and their CEO, Elon Musk. In the news on 1st September 2020, Elon Musk started the new month on a strong foot by surpassing Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and becoming the world’s richest person.

On Monday, Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index showed that Musk had reached a net worth of over $115.4 billion. At the time, Facebook’s boss had a net worth of $110.8 billion as well.

Musk’s wealth has grown impressively and steadily in 2020; he has added about $87.8 billion to his wealth so far. Most of his success is hinged on the success of his electric car company, Tesla.

The company itself had grown its stock impressively this year. It has gone from ‘a popular electric car company’ to the most popular car manufacturer worldwide. It is shipping more cars than car companies like GM, Toyota, Ford and others.

Elon Musk’s recent status as the third richest person in the world was also due to the fact that Tesla’s stock split on the same day. The stock rose by nearly 12% on the same day, thus firing Musk’s net worth upward as well.

The tech boss does not appear to be one of those who spends his money to impress the public. This year, he had mentioned that he wanted to sell all his material possessions in other to invest more in his companies.

Last week, his other company, Neuralink had tested a brain implant chip that could tract the organ’s activity. He says this will greatly improve neurosurgery research.

However, Elon Musk’s place at the third spot was short-lived. The next day, on Tuesday 2nd September 2020, Mark Zuckerberg had returned to the third spot and dropped Tesla’s CEO back to fourth.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos still leads the chart with a net worth of $200 million and Bill Gates is second. Tech bosses and people who have close dealings with tech dominate the top ten list of richest men in the world.
