Elon Musk and Grimes welcome baby girl named Y

And before you ask why, you should remember that her older brother was named X. Now, the news of Elon Musk and Grimes welcoming a new baby girl was broken by Vanity Fair, and it seems the child was born in December 2021…

There is just so much to unpack here, and it is not only about the baby’s name. Recall that the tech billionaire and his singer girlfriend reportedly broke up, and now, they have an entire baby? How?!

The trending Vanity Fair profile on Grimes reported that they had the baby through a surrogate. And the story had allegedly only come out after the interviewer inquired about the crying baby noise in the singer’s home during a sit-down.

Following the news, Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, tweeted that she and Elon Musk were really broken up, and the article was written when they were together. However, she added, “but he’s my best friend and the love of my life, and my life and art are forever dedicated to The Mission now…”

She clarified that the mission is not some obscure grand plan to take over the world. “Ps ‘The Mission’ is ‘Sustainable energy, making humanity a multiplanetary species and the preservation of consciousness.'”

Like X Æ A-12, the new baby’s name — Exa Dark Sideræl Musk — requires some breaking down. Thankfully, Vanity Fair and Grimes did the job for us already.

Here is what Elon Musk and Grimes baby’s name mean, according to the mum:

  • Exa: the supercomputing term exaFLOPS (the ability to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second)
  • Dark: the unknown. She adds, “People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.”
  • Sideræl [sigh-deer-ee-el]: an elven spelling of sidereal — the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time. It is also a homage to Galadriel, one of Grimes’ favourite Lord of the Rings characters.

There is no clear indication of why the baby is being called Y.
