Elon Musk And Grimes Change Baby X Æ A-12’s Name

As many expected, Elon Musk and his girlfriend, Grimes have changed their son’s name from X Æ A-12, which had trended online when he was born. However, what many did not expect was that the new name would even be more complicated.

The couple had changed X Æ A-12 to “X Æ A-Xii”. Somehow they had managed to take a confusing name and make it further bewildering. Of course the only difference the new name has is that the number ‘12’ has been replaced with what looks like roman numerals, ‘Xii’.

While it is not clear why Elon Musk and Grimes changed their baby’s name; the couple did not also explain if the meaning of the name had changed from the last time Grimes explained it. The new mother had revealed the name change in response to an Instagram user’s inquiry.

The user had asked Grimes on Sunday 24th May 2020: “Did you change the baby name because of Californian laws? What is the baby’s new name?” Grimes had replied with “X Æ A-Xii” before adding that “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh”.

However, CNET reports that the new name would likely not be accepted to be put on the baby’s birth certificate. Quoting a California family-law attorney’s statement to People magazine; it had mentioned that the state doesn’t allow symbols, numbers or Roman numerals on birth certificates. Names used on birth certificates in the region must contain characters from the English alphabet.

Hyphens are excluded from this law and since Xii is different from the Roman numeral XII for 12; it remains to be seen if the “Æ” would be an obstacle. Elon Musk and Grimes’ first child together had been subject to alien and robot jokes after Musk revealed the name on 5th May.

Grimes had offered explanations for what each of the characters of the name represents and you can see the details here.
