Operatives from the Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended 32 suspected yahoo boys (Internet fraudsters). The EFCC arrested them on Thursday, 25th April 2019 from Liberty Estate in Laderin area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
They caught the suspected yahoo boys with certain items in the surprise arrival of the EFCC. The boys were between the ages of 15 and 39. According to Mr Tony Orilade, the commission’s spokesperson, 14 of them claimed to be undergraduates and, others, self-employed.
“The arrest was sequel to a petition detailing their alleged fraudulent activities. [This is] including internet fraud through which they obtain money from unsuspecting victims.”
In their premises, the EFCC recovered many items. They include exotic cars, laptops and mobile phones. There were also several documents containing false pretences and fetish objects.
According to Tony Orilade, the suspects are already helping operatives with useful information. Subsequently, they will face the court as soon as the officers conclude investigations.
