Canadian rapper Drake has withdrawn his two nominations for the upcoming 2022 Grammy Awards.
Variety reports that the four-time Grammy winner and his management asked the Recording Academy to withdraw his two nominations from the final-round ballot.
Drake was one of five artists in each of the categories in which he was nominated. Variety reports that he will be removed but will not be replaced in either category. The remaining four artists will now battle it out for each of the awards.
By Monday 6th December, the Grammys had already removed Drake’s nominations from the nominee list on its website.
Drake, 35, was in the running for Best Rap Album with his record “Certified Lover Boy” and Best Rap Performance for his track “Way 2 S**y.”
The “Hotline Bling” rapper has previously won only four Grammy Awards, including for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song.

Drake had called out the Grammys in previous years. In November 2020, Drake showed his solidarity with The Weeknd when the latter described the Grammys as “corrupt”.
This was after his 2020 “After Hours” album and songs “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless” failed to get a nod from the academy.
The singer after the 2021 nominations tweeted “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency.”
Drake on his Instagram story supported The Weeknd saying The Grammys may soon become obsolete.
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after. It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways,” Drake wrote.
