US president Donald Trump has issued another threat against immigrants in the United States. He took to his Twitter page to address the issue on Tuesday, 18th June. Earlier, he had vaguely threatened to deport “millions” of undocumented immigrants on Monday. According to him, this would be carried out next week.

He said in the tweets that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement will “begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States.”

Adding to this, he called on “congressional Democrats to address the “Border Crisis.” However, Trump did not provide additional details. This information also took the president’s administrative by surprise.

A senior administration official told CNN that there were “not a lot of happy faces” around the Department of Homeland Security upon hearing the news.

In spite of this, Trump insisted that they were aware.

He mentioned this to CNN’s Pamela Brown during an interview. He also added, “They’re going to start next week. When people come in illegally, they have to go out. Everybody is seeing that,” CNN reports.

On Monday, he suggested that deporting millions of people would require vast resources. Adding, he noted that the ICE, DHS’ enforcement arm, is already strained by migrants crossing the border illegally.

CNN reports that in May, nearly 133,000 migrants were arrested for illegally crossing the border, of which more than 11,000 were unaccompanied children.

On the border crisis, the ICE said in a statement on Tuesday:

“The border crisis doesn’t start and stop at the border, which is why ICE will continue to conduct interior enforcement without exemption for those who are in violation of federal immigration law,” ICE said.

“This includes routine targeted enforcement operations, criminals, individuals subject to removal orders, and worksite enforcement. This is about addressing the border crisis by upholding the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the immigration system, as created by Congress.”

They also noted that the deportation process is still in its “planning stage”. Meanwhile, president Donald Trump is set to kick off his 2020 campaign for re-election.
