American rapper DMX is reportedly in critical condition after suffering from a drug overdose on Friday, April 2nd.
According to close friends and associates, the rapper suffered a heart attack after overdosing and is currently in the intensive care unit of White Plains Hospital, New York.
An official statement from his representative reads;
“Last night Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.”
The rep continues;
“The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

TMZ reports that he’s suffered major brain damage following a lack of oxygen to his brain. While some sources report “Some brain activity”, others say he’s in a “vegetative state”. The doctors have however cautioned he may not make it. He’s currently on life support.
DMX, born Earl Simmons, 50 has struggled with substance abuse for much of his life, which repeatedly made it into his songs.
The artist has been to rehab several times; the last time in 2019 after completing a 12-month sentence for tax evasion.
He’d just began to dust up his music career and even hinted at an album release. DMX was last seen performing in a Verzuz battle with fellow rapper Snoop Dogg.
