DIY: Are Your App Notifications Not Showing? Here Are Five Steps To Fix This Problem

Apps notifications are useful because they alert you of new activities such as urgent messages and other activities. Sometimes, they can be distracting as well; thus, to give users enough control, smartphone makers and app developers offer many settings that you can choose from.

Often times, when your apps no longer show notifications, it could be because of one or more of the following reasons:

  • Synchronisation is turned off
  • Permissions are not granted
  • App notifications are turned off from the app settings
  • Phone settings
  • App version expired

See how to fix the five problems highlighted above:

— The smartphone synchronization (or sync) setting allows apps to refresh data automatically. Thus, with each new activity on an app, it automatically sees it when data is turned on and gives feedback in the form of notifications. If the sync setting is turned off, you may stop getting app notifications. To fix this issue, go to Settings > Accounts, then toggle on Automatically sync data. Depending on what version of Android you are using, you can find the Sync option in the quick settings when you swipe your screen downwards.

— When downloading apps, they ask for some permissions, some of these include the permission to send notifications even when the app is not open. If you don’t grant this permission, you may not receive notifications. Here is how to grant required permissions to apps: go to Settings, and search permissions from the search bar. You can also opt to allow important messaging apps to Autostart from this settings page and grant other permissions you require.

— If you are still not receiving notifications from your apps, you may have to check the app itself. Open it and go to its settings menu. From there, you will find the app’s notification options. Go through and enable the kind of activities you want to be receiving notifications for.

— Phone settings may also play a part in why you no longer get notifications from some apps. To check this, go to your smartphone settings and search notifications from the search bar. Some smartphones have this option under the App & notifications option in settings. Once you open it, you see apps that are permitted to notify you arranged at the top. If after checking and you discover that the app you want is not among this list, you can scroll downwards to find it and enable notifications.
