Danger On Wheels: TikTok Teens Engage In Dangerous Cha Cha Slide Challenge

‘Cha Cha Slide’ dance returns with TikTok users taking it to a whole new level, which is dangerous for every car owner, in trending challenge. The dangerous trend is gaining traction despite the obvious risk it poses.

It seems Generation Z teens are leading the tiger by the tail as they continue engaging in the latest Cha Cha slide dance using their cars. Teenagers on the growing TikTok platform seem to have resurrected the 2000 released song titled: Cha Cha Slide.

The song, which was released by American artist DJ Casper, also known as Mr. C The Slide Man, has lyrics that instructs:

Slide to the left
Slide to the right
Criss cross, criss cross
Cha cha real smooth

And while this may seem harmless in itself, the TikTok generation is performing the dance with their cars. While driving. On busy roads. Although there is no information on who resurrected the song and who made it a trend to pul-off the dance moves with cars, it is becoming more popular.

Meanwhile, the danger is glaring. According to Mirror, TikTok user Angel De La Cruz posted a video of him and his friends trying the challenge. He had written: “The car almost flipped.”

While you would expect this to discourage others, it seemed to spur them on.

Another TikTok user, Giovanni had captioned his video: “CHA CHA SLIDE should not be done in the car.”

Yet, this had also gone unheeded.

TikTok had taken a step to discourage others from participating in the trending challenge. It had added a warning message to some of the videos, that reads:

‘The action in this video could result in serious injury.’

This has not also stopped the young ones from putting themselves in danger just to get likes on their TikTok posts.

The service, which had just launched in the global markets in 2017 has suddenly bloomed. The creators state that they are behind encouraging people to post creative content. However, the clamour for likes and followership is the same as many other social media platforms as we have come to see.

This is not the first time TikTokers have engaged in dangerous trends. In January 2020, videos of users sliding coins between partially-inserted phone chargers and sockets circulated.

While it may have been fun to watch the unsuspecting victim react to shock, it was a dangerous prank. Plymouth Fire Department Chief Edward Bradley speaking to ABC 6 had said after one such challenge led to smoking and burning in a school building:

“These actions are extremely dangerous and could potentially start a fire and cause thousands of dollars in property damage. It could also cause serious injury to anyone who is nearby.

“The other issue can be that you do damage to some electrical wiring behind the wall and a fire could be undetected and burning in the walls, endangering everyone that’s in the building.”

The Cha Cha Slide Challenge on TikTok is currently raising concerns. This may put the service in a direct path with local authorities, something it likely wants to avoid.
