CTA Insists CES 2022 In-Person Event Continue As Exhibitors Withdraw

CTA Consumer Technology Association organisers of the yearly CES event insists the 2022 in-person event will go on despite numerous exhibitors withdrawal. Exhibitors including tech companies, startups and media house have been withdrawing from the event.

This is as a result of the growing COVID-19 cases in the United States, the growing list includes Hisense, Lenovo and even sponsor T-Mobile. CTA through the CES twitter sent out updates about the event on December 24 2022.

While there are withdrawals, the organisers are very keen on the digital coverage of the event.  “Our focus remains on convening the tech industry and giving those who cannot attend in person the ability to experience the magic of CES digitally” they said.

Reassuring the public, they sent out an official statement saying “…we are confident that attendees and exhibitors can have a socially distanced but worthwhile and productive event in Las Vegas, or while experiencing it online.”

Laptop maker Lenovo will be withdrawing physically from the event. It announced it would “suspend all on-site activity in Las Vegas,” physical site. The likes of Amazon, T-Mobile, Meta and AT&T won’t be attending either.

Consumer Technology Association (CTA), who is in charge of the event held the 2021 edition completely online. Since it first began in 1967, this is the first time the CES was an all-online event.

They said in a statement, “We plan to return to Las Vegas for CES 2022, combining the best elements of a physical and digital show.”

CTA insists there will be requirement for proof of vaccination, social distanicing, masks and free rapid tests. Prominent companies still attending the event are LG, Samsung and Sony. Google, Intel and Waymo are the latest tech companies to make a withdrawal.
