Crypto.com pays $7 million to woman owed $70

Crypto.com found out that it had sent $7.2 million (A$10.5 million) to a woman it owed a refund of $68 (A$100) seven months after the mistake.

It turns out that there are really some people living out your dream somewhere in this world. How many times have you daydreamed of coming across a large some of money that you didn’t expect?

This is exactly how things turned out for Thevamanogari Manivel, a customer of Crypto.com, the world’s largest crypto exchange platform. She had received a whopping 100,000 times what she was expecting and no one was the wiser until..

The error was spotted only after the company was conducting an audit in December. For seven months after she received the wrong amount, she had sat on the money and did not alert the company.

According to reports, she had even used almost one million dollars to purchase a five-bedroom property in Melbourne.

The crypto exchange has now taken the matter to court in an attempt to recover their money. First, the court has ordered that the property, which is in her sister’s name, be sold and the money be given to the company.

Manivel has since transferred the money to a joint account, which is also frozen by order of the court. The case would be tried in October 2022, more than a years after the mistaken transaction occurred.
