Covid-19 Update March 23: Suleiman Achimugu Dies As Nigeria Records First Death

Nigeria has recorded her first death case of Covid-19 as Suleiman Achimugu dies of the infectious disease. He was formerly managing director at the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC).


Achimugu passed at 2 am on Monday at age 67. He had started exhibiting the symptoms of the virus on Tuesday. The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) took his blood sample for a test and evacuated him to the specialist hospital, Gwagwalada, FCT. He died receiving treatment.


The NCDC official twitter page announced Nigeria’s first death case.

The statement read:

“The first #COVID-19 death in Nigeria has been recorded. The case was a 67 year old male who returned home following medical treatment in UK


He had underlying medical conditions – multiple myeloma & diabetes & was undergoing chemotherapy. Our thoughts are with his family.”

In addition, the government agency mentions that states are responsible for primary case management. Thus, they will not provide comments on the management of cases.


“The NCDC will not provide comments on the management of individual cases. We also ask the public to respect the privacy of individuals and their families who are affected at this time”


Currently, Nigeria records 36 coronavirus cases; Lagos – 25, FCT – 6, Ogun – 2, Ekiti – 1, Oyo – 1 and Edo – 1

Former Vice-President Atiku son test positive for coronavirus

Atiku Abubakar’s son has tested positive for the viral coronavirus. The Ex-Viice President broke the unfortunate news via his verified twitter page.


The former vice president disclosed that his son is at the Gwagwalada Specialist Teaching Hospital in Abuja for isolation and treatment.
