The Covid-19 curve in Nigeria has begun to rise.
For the past three days the Nigeria has seen a spike in positive Covid-19 cases especially from it’s economic centre, Lagos state.Today the state reached an unprecedented number of 70 confirm cases within 24hrs.

Eighty-six new cases of #COVID19 have been reported;
70 in Lagos
7 in FCT
3 in Katsina
3 in Akwa Ibom
1 in Jigawa
1 in Bauchi
1 in BornoAs at 11:50 pm 19th April there are 627 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria.

The majority of people testing positive now have neither travelled out the country recently thus it can be deduced that community spreading is well underway.
Another worrisome aspect is the fact that the NCDC may not be doing enough testing. As at 17th April, NCDC announced it has tested samples of 7,153 since February 27th when Nigeria recorded her index case.

Other African countries; Ghana , South-Africa and Egypt have conducted 68,591, 114,771 and 55,000 tests respectively. This has put them in position to better curb the spread.
Nigeria now records 21 deaths from Covid-19 and 627 confirmed.
As at 11:50 pm 19th April, the breakdown of cases by state is: Lagos – 376, FCT – 87, Kano -36, Osun – 20, Oyo – 16, Edo – 15, Ogun – 12, Kwara – 9, Katsina – 12, Bauchi – 7, Kaduna – 6, Akwa Ibom – 9, Delta – 4, Ekiti – 3, Ondo – 3, Enugu – 2, Rivers -2, Niger – 2, Benue – 1, Anambra – 1, Borno – 1 and Jigawa – 2.
