Colin Kaepernick Returns To EA Sports Madden NFL 21 After Four Years

EA Sports is bringing back Colin Kaepernick to Madden NFL 21 after the football quarterback had been absent since 2016. In the Madden NFL 21 game, players will be able to add Kaepernick to any of the teams as a QB in Franchise and Play Now Mode.

In announcing the news, EA Sports took to the Madden NFL official handle to Tweet:

The gaming franchise further said, “Colin Kaepernick is one of the top free agents in football and a starting-caliber quarterback. The team at EA Sports, along with millions of Madden NFL fans, want to see him back in our game.

“We’ve had a long relationship with Colin through Madden NFL and worked through our past soundtrack mistakes. Knowing that our EA Sports experiences are platforms for players to create, we want to make Madden NFL a place that reflects Colin’s position and talent, rates him as a starting QB, and empowers our fans to express their hopes for the future of football.”

After Colin Kaepernick was listed as a free agent in 2016, EA Sports lost the rights to use his likeness in its game. Thus, the company had to reach a new agreement with him.

He had been at the helm of controversy in 2016 after he started kneeling during the national anthem in protest to how Black people are oppressed in the US. Colin Kaepernick became a free agent after the season and no NFL team signed him.

Kaepernick has since become a notable figure in Black movements.

EA Sports’ announcement of Colin Kaepernick’s return to Madden NFL 21 caused mixed reactions. While some people rejoiced and said they would add him to their team, others threatened to boycott the game in protest.
