Instagram has introduced a check out tool that lets users shop and check out of their cart without leaving the app. The beta version of the feature rolled out in the United States on Tuesday, 19th March 2019. It already features a few businesses.
The photo and video sharing app has been building on its online tools recently. The new service works with existing tools like shopping tags and stickers inside both feed posts and stories. It displays photos, allows users to choose different options, and then includes a “check out on Instagram” button.
According to Instagram, the check out information will be “securely saved” for future orders. It also streamlines the process for second purchases, even from a different retailer. After completing your check out on Instagram, it then tracks the order and sends delivery updates right inside the Instagram notifications. It will also have an option to request support, make a return, or cancel an in-progress order.
Insta-checkout now has about 130 million users taking advantage of the service monthly. The new shopping-focused update has features that allow users to save products and add shopping tags and stickers. There is also an explore page dedicated specifically to products.
A partnership with Paypal and eCommerce platform, BigCommerce has helped launch the new tool to allow ease of payment. Instagram is looking to sign up new retail stores on the platform soon as business owners can now apply to use it. Meanwhile, they kicked off with a few retailers already on board. Some of them are Adidas, Burberry, Dior, H&M, Michael Kors, Nike, Zara and Kim Kardashian’s KKW.
The current version of Insta-checkout is still in beta form.
