South African star actress Charlize Theron has officially debunked rumors that she was engaged to actor and two-time academy award winner Sean Penn.
She spilled the tea on the nature of her relationship with Sean Penn on Howard Stern’s radio show while making the promotional tour for her Netflix movie “Old Guard”. As they conversed, Stern asked about her relationship with Penn and her rumored engagement to him.
“What? That’s not true. No. I did not ‘almost get married to Sean’, that’s such bulls—t” Theron, 44, said. “No, we dated, that was literally all we did, we dated.”
The couple reportedly started dating from 2013 through to 2015 and were rumored to have been engaged. Theron, however, cleared the air stating emphatically she and Penn, 59, were never headed for the aisle.
“It was a relationship, for sure. We were definitely exclusive, but it was for barely a year,” she continued. “We never moved in. I was never going to marry him. It was nothing like that.”

While speaking to Esquire magazine in 2015, Theron said she and Penn’s relationship stems from a place of deep respect.
“I think our friendship stemmed from mutual respect — more on my end because I really didn’t have a body of work twenty years ago, but my love and passion for making films — that was our common ground. And also, Sean liked to have conversations outside of just making movies. That’s sometimes hard to find among friends here, and that’s where our friendship really blossomed.”
When Stern also asked if the “Mad Max: Fury Road” star ever thought about getting married.
“I never wanted to get married. That’s never been something that’s important to me,” she responded.
Theron added: “I enjoy being set up on dates but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to live with somebody again. To be totally frank, they might have to buy the house next to me. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to deal with that ever again, I’m too old for that s—t.”
When asked if she’s ever felt alone as a single mum, she said never. “On the lives of my children, I’ve never been lonely. I’ve never felt alone,”
She also said she was skeptical of getting into romantic relationships. “My life right now just doesn’t allow a lot of room for something like that to happen,” Charlize Theron said. “But in saying that, there’s not this thing that drives me [to have a romantic relationship”
