Burna Boy Mourns Louis Vuitton Designer Virgil Abloh, Says They Were Working Together On His Next Album

Burna has mourned the passing of Ghanian-American Louis Vuitton fashion designer, entrepreneur and DJ Virgil Abloh.

Virgil Abloh lost the battle against cancer

Abloh who has battled with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma passed on November 28, 2021, at age 41.

Until his death, Abloh was the artistic director for Louis Vuitton Men’s Collection, a position he’s held since 2018. He was also the CEO of Off-White, a Milan based fashion house he founded in 2012.

Taking to his Instagram, Burna Boy mourned Abloh, writing that he was supposed to be the creative director for his next album.

The Afrobeats superstar revealed that he and his sister Ronami Ogulu spent hours on the phone with the late designer and expressed shock at his death.

“Me, @Ronami and @VirgilAbloh spent hours on the phone talking about the creative direction for the next album,” the “Onyeka Baby” singer wrote.

We should have been talking about how he was doing. He seemed so full of life. He was supposed to be the creative director of my next album. I don’t even know where to start now. RIP to the Legend”.

Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH announcing Abloh’s passing described him as a genius designer and also, a man of great wisdom.

“We are all shocked after this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sorrow. And we are all thinking of his loved ones after the passing of their husband, their father, their brother, or their friend,” the statement said.

Virgil Abloh is survived by his wife Shannon Abloh, and two kids, Grey Abloh and Lowe Abloh.
