Bosch Creates Vivatmo me, A Device That Can Recognise Asthma Attacks Before They Happen
Bosch, a German multinational engineering and technology company, has designed a small handy device called Vivatmo me that can detect the early signs of an asthma attack in people.
The company announced the device via a Tweet on 2nd October 2020. It had Tweeted:
Recognizing the early signs of an #asthma attack can be important, especially for older adults. To help patients measure and keep track of the disease, we have developed Vivatmo me – the world’s first #FeNO measuring #device for home use. The Bosch Vivatmo me device is small, handy and easy to use. It works by measuring something called the FeNO value. FeNO is an inflammatory marker in our breath, Bosch says. It actually means fractional exhaled nitric oxide (NO).

Nitric Oxide is a gas produced in the blood vessels, nervous system and lungs. While this gas plays an important role in the immune system defense, it also plays a part in inflammatory processes. The measurement of fractional exhaled nitric oxide – known as FeNO – has been standardised for clinical application. This is important to detect the gas in the lower airways.
Thus, FeNo concentration is vital to determine the extent of airway inflammation in asthma. Asthma itself is an inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs. By a simple breath test, FeNO is measured and asthma diagnoses is given.
Additionally, since early detection is important in asthma emergencies, Bosch Vivatmo me device is important. Besides detecting the condition, the device also helps experts to prescribe proper dosage from measurements taken over the course of a therapy.
To use Vivatmo me, place it on your lips like a flute and breathe out through the mouthpiece (see picture above). This mouthpiece is also disposable and replaceable. The device has a LED display also helps you know if you are breathing normally, too gently or too hard.
Then, the device uses a range of ‘traffic lights’ to show you your FeNO values and you can plan your day adequately. You can buy it from Bosch online store.
