The company said that the modes will be rolling out for Windows, macOS and ChromeOS over the next couple of weeks worldwide. These modes are expected to use 40% and 10GB less memory to keep your tabs running smoothly, and extend battery life of your device when it is running low.

Google adds that the Memory Saver tool is especially useful for users who are running other intensive applications, like editing family videos or playing games. What it does is free up memory from tabs that you are not using so that the active ones run smoothly and you can reload the tabs when you need them again.

Meanwhile, the Energy Saver kicks in when your device is at 20% and it limits background activities and visual effects for websites running animations and videos.

You can personalise the performance of the tools by turning them off or by marking the most important tabs (or websites) to be exempted from Memory Saver. The controls are in the three dot menu in Chrome at the top right corner.
