Boon Joon Ho’s oscar award-winning film “Parasite” is getting a TV adaption. The history-making director will be collaborating with “Succession” executive director Adam McKay and HBO for a television series adaptation.
The new series will center on an original story in the feature film’s universe.
In an interview with Collider, Mckay stressed that HBO’s “Parasite” will not be a remake of Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning film.
“We’re just having the best time,” McKay said. “We’ve just staffed up with an incredible writers’ room. I basically outlined the series with director Bong during the quarantine, with him overseeing.”
“It’s an original series,” he said. “It’s in the same universe as the feature, but it’s an original story that lives in that same world.”

He also shared he was pretty delighted to work with Bong.
“Occasionally in life, you get very lucky, and for me to get to work anywhere near director Bong’s orbit — usually, when I hear people say ‘I’m honored,’ it sounds like bullshit to me, but I’m legitimately honored. And having a blast.”
Bong in a January interview had shared he had the ideas stored up in his IPAD. He also shared the original idea was too long to make into a feature film.
“The ideas are all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film.”
In 2019, “Parasite” won Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. It also won leading four awards at the 92nd Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. The dark comedy thriller became the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
