To save the video game company from complete reputational ruin, Microsoft has hired Jessica Martinez as the first ever Vice President of culture at Blizzard.
Serving as Head of Culture, Martinez is tasked with the job of fixing the work culture in the company. As its president, Mike Ybarra, had revealed in January 2022, the company opened new leadership roles to change the company’s culture in the face of lawsuits and scandals.
Kristen Hines had been recruited as chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer in April. And with Jessica Martinez’s addition, it is clear that Blizzard, or its new owners Microsoft, want to change its public image.

Accused of creating a culture of harassment and gender-based discrimination, court cases, and social media calls for cancellation, Blizzard has been on the tipping point for almost a year now. Its tottering reputation will likely get the support it needs with the leadership roles being filled up one after the other.
Blizzard said that Jessica would lead vital action plans to ensure its values are reflected in its day-to-day operations and organizational design. Also, she will help to level-up connections between Blizzard franchises.
Before joining the video game company, she had worked as a leading strategy, communications, operations and employee experience officer at the Walt Disney Company for 14 years. “Making the values of our connections show up in what we do is how we bring humanity back to business,” Jessica Martinez said as she takes over restoring proper working culture at Blizzard.
