Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to 2018 Black Panther, has opened with a $330 million debut in the box office. The highly anticipated Marvel movie beat earning projections in North America, notching $10 million more than its expected $170 million revenue in the region.
Hinging on the emotional tribute to deceased beloved actor Chadwick Boseman and the return of several cast members like Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett, there are high hopes for the movie. And so far, the reactions show that it has not disappointed.

Gizmodo said that it has the 12th highest start in MCU history and beat the record held by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) as November’s highest-grossing film in North America. In 2022, it is the movie with the 2nd highest domestic debut, after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
As previously said, there is still time to see if the movie can cross the billion-dollar mark that its predecessor reached. Understandably, it will not be screening in China, due to a ban by the country’s regulators, and Russia, due to its invasion of Ukraine.
Compared to other major Marvel cinema productions, it appears that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may not be doing anything special in the box office. If after three or four weeks, the movie is still around the same expected ballpark, we may see it begin streaming on Disney+ by January 2023.
